Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 Release Date (Gamestop) & Cover Art – June 16th

IGN had previously given a release date for June 30th, but the Golf Channel has recently been advertising pre-orders from Gamestop and it does appear that June 16th will be the release date for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 on all platforms.  Most likely this is the placeholder date that NASCAR previously held, but as Sports Gaming Now had reported yesterday (link), there will not be a sim-style NASCAR game in 2009.  This could be part of the reason that Tiger was bumped up to June this year.  June 16th is also the Tuesday right before the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black.

In addition to Gamestop’s pre-order information, the cover art has slipped out on their site as well.  It appears that this photo, coinciding with the “Feel The Drama” tagline, is from his U.S. Open triumph against Rocco Mediate at Torrey Pines last year.

Deciphering the “Welcome Back Tiger” Video

Well now that we know we’re going to get Tiger roughly two months early this year, we’re craving more information as to what we will be able to see in the game this year.  What I’ve decided to do is break down the “Welcome Back Tiger” video that was posted in the Inside EA Blog on the 21st (click here for the link to the video).

If you take a close look at the back of the green, you’ll notice something new.  There is an LED display screen posted at the back of the green!  The current screen that the picture is showing appears to be the layout and details of the current hole.  One can only speculate what else it may contain.  The obvious guess would be the current leaderboard.  What else do you think (or do you want) will be on these new digital displays?

Tiger Falls in Second Round of Accenture Match Play

Tiger has an .842 winning precentage in his career at the Accenture Match Play tournament leading into today’s matchup with South African Tim Clark; however, that winning precentage dipped to .821 after Clark defeated Woods 4 & 2 today in the second round.  The key stat in the match was where Clark was bogey free, and Tiger made three.  The Back Nine Blog would love to welcome Tiger back to PGA action and wishes him the best the rest of the season.

Tiger Off to an “Ideal Start” in Return

I’m assuming I can speak for the PGA here by saying “WELCOME BACK TIGER!”.  Tiger advances easily to the round of 32 in the Accenture Match Play due to a hot start.  This afternoon, Tiger defeated Aussie Brendan Jones 3&2.  Tiger was quoted as saying “I got off to probably an ideal start.  I hit a couple loose irons in the middle part of the round.  But other than that, I really hit it pretty good all day.”  Tomorrow, Tiger will tee it up against Tim Clark (ranked 32nd in the world).

Thoughts About The Tiger PGA Tour 10 Community Day

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know that community day was a blast. Only four of us were brought in and we got to try out the 360 and Wii versions of the game. Everyone out at Tiburon was just awesome. There will be some new things that are going to knock the socks off of the golfing fans. I can’t say much at this time, but once I’m able to, I will post the news and some podcasts as soon as I can.

Tiger Returns Next Week @ The Accenture Match Play

From ESPN.com:

LOS ANGELES – Tiger Woods says he can hit all the shots in practice and will go to the Accenture Match Play Championship with designs on winning. But he isn’t sure what to expect.

Woods spoke on a conference call Friday and said he hasn’t experienced in a while the excitement he gets from competition.

Woods will end his eight-month absence from competition Wednesday outside Tucson, Ariz. He has not played since capturing the U.S. Open on June 16 in a playoff over Rocco Mediate. Woods won despite hobbling on shredded knee ligaments and a double stress fracture in his left leg.

Wii MotionPlus Confirmed for Tiger 10

In an e-mail discussing its upcoming EA Sports Season Opener Event in San Francisco, EA confirmed that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 for the Nintendo Wii will feature the new Wii MotionPlus technology.

Wii MotionPlus is an accessory for the WiiMote. The add-on attaches to the bottom of the Wii-mote controller and increases the accuracy in tracing motions in 3-D space by better orienting the controller. According to Nintendo, ‘every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play.’ This should help Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 help close the gap between video game and simulation.

Coincidentally, today is also the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 Community Event at EA Tiburon. It is unknown at this time what info (if any) attendees will be able to share following the event.

An early teaser video for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is out and says “Feel the Drama.”  Even more exciting is that it states Tiger will be teeing off in June 2009!  Last year, TW09 came out in late August.
